Since 1954 FAMSA has been providing counselling, education and training for South Africans who want help with relationship issues. Through its country-wide network of societies, FAMSA can reach people throughout the nation. FAMSA offers a comprehensive range of services to families, communities and companies.

Our mission is to support individuals, couples, families, organisations, Communities and society to build restore and sustain functional relationships and to provide preventative and remedial services which build on existing strengths and change in families, groups and communities.

Our Staff

Our Qualifications and Expertise

Our team is built on a foundation of professionalism and expertise, ensuring the highest quality of counseling services. All practitioners possess relevant qualifications, such as a degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other appropriate fields, including pastoral, medical, nursing, and teaching. Registration with professional bodies like the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) or the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) is mandatory, ensuring adherence to ethical and professional standards.

Volunteers undergo rigorous screening, training in Basic and Intermediate Counseling Skills, and in-house practical training. They serve under the supervision of coordinators at one of our four Community Lay Counselling.

With bilingual capabilities, emotional maturity, and strong communication skills, our counselors are well-equipped to offer compassionate and effective support to the community.
